Jad Fardon, Founder and creative director of Awale, takes us on a journey of nostalgia and disconnectedness from the busyness of city life, allowing us to connect with our childlike qualities in nature in his new Awale studio SS19 collection.

Handmade out of natural cotton threads, each piece speaks of an effortless summer romance. The focal point of the collection is the bold use of colour, contrasting bright orange like the pulsing summer sun and subtle nudes mimicking the sand. The colour palette reflects a contrast of warm and cool colours – “described as an exotic cocktail watching a breathtaking sunset”.

“The collection is about two lovers – spending a few days on a wild beach away from the city noises.”

The minimalistic finishes of oversized cuts and raw, untouched edges lend to the sentiment of liberation and natural happiness. The unrestricted pieces allow for minimal exposure, suggesting a playful innocence, however, simultaneously alluring. La Presqu’île is said to be inspired by poetry, romance and fond childhood memories of the beach on a summers day.

The sand dollar, a shell found on the coasts of West Africa is communicated through the differentiating finishes such as dyed prints, embroideries, buckle and jewellery that replicates the shape of the shell.

“Cause whether you’re a child playing in the sand, or a lover living that magic, the truth is at the end of the day, you found a place you can call home, a place that makes you feel yourself. Simply, truly, deeply.”
