Two years after starting her own fashion blog ‘Style by Rida’ with the dream of sharing ‘Made in Ghana and ‘Made in Africa’ through the lens of fashion, art and culture Afua Rida is a style and fashion influencer to take note of.
I for real met her at last years Lagos Fashion and design week and so on a recent trip to Cape Town, South Africa we caught up, chatted and here she exclusively shares her style diary from the Mother City, a city that she says has the most iconic views ever!
First stop was to Merchants on long, Africa’s first concept store and shop which is full of premier designer brands from around the continent. “I loved the Rich Mnisi red V-Neck tunic and combined it with Maxhosa prints,” says Afua.
Nominated this year for the Glitz Awards in the BEST style influencer category she describes her own style as simple and classic. However, the multicolored Bo Kaap area brought out the flair and prints with the perfect mix and match of Chulaap and Maxhosa knits.
How it all started….
After six years of studying and working in Montreal, Canada, Afua moved back home to Accra, Ghana to pursue a career in fashion.“ I convinced a few designers to let me use their pieces in a photo shoot with the promise of writing about their brands. Kept going every week, until here I am today.”
“Wearing African Fashion makes me proud of where I am from and I feel like I am indirectly telling the world about our culture and our lives, and about how we like to express ourselves.”
“I see myself becoming an Icon in Fashion in Africa and all over the world”
