Since first meeting ‘Bayo (as he is affectionately known), the creative director and founder of brand Orange Culture at Lagos fashion and design week several years back, the brand has grown in leaps and bounds.
Just recently, the brand partnered with globally recognized Nigerian Artist Davido in what is one of the African biggest fashion x music collaborations, resulting in a limited edition collection sold exclusively at Selfridges.
Now, the new Spring Summer 18 collection fresh off the Lagos fashion and design week 2018 runway, is presented in a rhetorically titled look book ‘Do You Trust me?’
As one can expect from a designer who I think wears his heart on his sleeve, this is a presentation that draws inspiration from delving into the issue of and emotive playing field surrounding Trust.
Some of the stand out pieces carry a unique print, something which I think is becoming more synonymous with the brand, and certainly a carry over factor from the last collection ‘school of rejects’.
The amoeba-shaped images together with unique shapes, florals, dark shadows and loud colours dominate the collection.
Adebayo’s courage to explore such open-ended, complex phenomena (such as trust) through his work brings more meaning and a stamp of authentication making it more than just a collection, and more like a canvas in which he sketches what’s in his heart every season.
