Orange Culture Brings Us Raindrops and Tears

The Lagos based brand has launched their new Autumn Winter (AW) 2018 collection, which explores the rain and its relationship with humanity. Orange Culture’s Founder and Designer, Adebayo Oke-Lawal reveals the new lookbook and his thinking behind the collection.

On Raindrops and Tears: “[It’s] the beautiful release you get when you allow your problems to flow from your eyes.”

On fabrics: We played with super soft to seemingly hard fabrication, showing the struggle between vulnerability and caged emotionalism. Cottons, velvets, satins, wools and leathers are the fabrics that empower the collection and help us tell our story.

On inspiration: Our custom-made prints and custom rain/sunlight button detailing are inspired by Lagos Chaos in the rain.

On collaboration: Bags and shoes were made with APAART Africa, the green shoes were made by MEZZILEROY, the jewelry was made in collaboration with PICHULIK Africa and props and furniture were created by AGA Concept.

On the brand: Adebayo insists that the label is more than a clothing line. It is a movement that covers universal silhouettes with an African touch to a creative class of men, translating into a heady mixture of Nigerian inspired print fabrics, colour and contemporary urban streetwear.

On manufacturing: All Orange Culture pieces are manufactured in Lagos from ethically sourced fabrics. Staff are taken through a rigorous training process and given the opportunity to attend skill acquisition initiatives.

Cities featuring Orange Culture: Lagos, Paris, London, New York, Hollywood
